Dr. Thomas Mason
Chief Medical Officer (CMO), ONC
Dr. Thomas MasonDr. Thomas Mason is the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC). He is a board-certified primary care internal medicine physician with 14 years of clinical experience. Prior to ONC, Dr. Mason was the CMIO of the Ambulatory and Community Health Network of the Cook County Health and Hospitals System (CCHHS) the third largest public hospital system in the nation. At CCHHS he led the roll out of their ambulatory Electronic Health Record system, played a vital role in the implementation the Patient-Centered Medical Home care model and led both CCHHS hospitals to the successful attestation of Stage II Meaningful Use. In addition to his ambulatory and informatics roles at CCHHS, Dr. Mason followed his passion of caring for underserved communities by serving as the Co-Medical Director of Project Brotherhood, a weekly community-based public health intervention designed to address the health disparities impacting men in Chicago by providing primary care in a holistic, comprehensive, multi-disciplinary manner while addressing the social determinants of health. Dr. Mason earned his M.D. from the University of Illinois College of Medicine and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Rush University Medical Center and Cook County Hospital.
